Yes, he is alive, but he is slowly dying because of a lack of nutrition. Many believed Hidan was dead, especially Akatsuki since Shikamaru was blown to bits. Where he buried while he was still alive, and even he vowed to pull it together and get revenge on Shikamaru eventually.
